Volunteering

Volunteer with us

Without our team of amazing volunteers, our gardens would not be the thriving and beautiful places that they are today. We value and nurture volunteers, providing training and support, and opportunities to socialise and have fun.

‘I can’t explain how much the garden means to me. To be able to spend time here and help others; it’s a wonderful experience’

To volunteer with us, you don’t need any experience or qualifications, and you can offer as much or as little time as you can spare. You can volunteer to support an individual or small group in the garden, to help with garden maintenance, to help with fundraising and awareness raising, or to support one of our local initiatives such as the Zero Waste Stall in Ross. We just ask that you are enthusiastic and willing!

We are actively looking for volunteers to help with our work in the Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Newent areas:

Garden Sessions Volunteer (Ledbury or Ross-on-Wye) – Wednesday, Thursday or Friday mornings

  • Work alongside a small, friendly team to support people with a range of activities
  • Tasks vary and may include opening up and tidying away, making hot drinks, washing up, small DIY jobs, and gardening alongside service users
  • Gardening activities might include seed sowing, weeding, planting, pruning, mowing, composting and more – depending on the season, weather and individual abilities
  • Gardening experience is helpful but not essential – our sessions focus as much on community, connection and wellbeing as they do on growing

School Visits Helper (Ross-on-Wye and Newent) – Tuesday mornings  or afternoons, term-time only

  • Support our weekly school visits by helping to set up and tidy away sessions
  • Tasks may include making refreshments for teachers, assisting children with activities, and offering general support during sessions
  • No previous experience needed – a friendly, kind and supportive approach to children is what matters most

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Session Helper – occasional Saturday mornings

  • Supervise and encourage small groups of teenagers as they take part in garden-based activities
  • Tasks may include planting, weeding, digging, woodwork, and moving soil
  • A great role for someone who enjoys working with young people and being hands-on outdoors

Events Helper – occasional

  • Help support our seasonal events held several times throughout the year
  • Roles may include welcoming visitors, making and serving refreshments, helping to run activities, supporting visitors who need assistance, and setting up or packing away equipment
  • Volunteers are also needed to help with children’s holiday clubs during the school holidays
