Ross Community Garden
Ross Community Garden is a beautiful 3-acre space tucked away off Old Gloucester Road, just behind Ross Hospital. We run therapeutic gardening sessions for adults every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning, and host school visits on Tuesdays.
We also run a Zero Waste Stall, distributing surplus food every day except Sunday, and a Preloved School Uniform Stall to support local families. Throughout the year, we hold Open Days and regularly welcome a wide range of local groups and charities to enjoy the garden.
Community is at the heart of everything we do. Whether you join a regular gardening session or take part in a one-off event, you’ll find friendship, purpose and a sense of belonging, summed up by this quote from one of our volunteers: “Why do I go to the garden? I do it to feel part of a community. It is a way of meeting people who I wouldn’t meet ordinarily. It’s also a lovely space.” (December 2024). A mental health walk inspired a local visitor to tell us: “We’re so lucky to have this space in Ross, it’s looking amazing.” (May 2025).
We are proud of our achievements. In Ross-on-Wye Community Garden, in 2025:
- 974 schoolchildren visited
- 28 adults each month with a learning disability or mental health needs were provided with a total of 1700 hours of support,
- We provided over 47 tonnes of surplus food to anyone in need through the Zero Waste Stall which had over 10,000 visits,
- We ran our free Pre-loved School Uniform Stall regularly throughout the year,
- We offered HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) sessions for local children
- Through the Talk Community Hub, we offered help, support and signposting to services,
- These activities were only possible through around 120 local residents involved in volunteering.
